Hello, passengers, and happy New Year! We’re gonna smash the Easy Button on our way into 2021, so read on for this month’s chill plans.

But first, a few quick reminders:

1. Please remember to check in to AC for December no later than Tuesday, Jan. 5! The only thing required is a comment to say you’re still here in the game, but if you do submit a thread like normal, you can claim a third specialty item from the planet visit. Please please please do not make me sweep anyone, this is seriously the easiest AC ever.

2. Please claim your specialty items (everyone gets TWO automatically) on or before Saturday, Jan. 16 - this is extended from Jan. 2.

OK, now buckle up! For the, uh, gentle slide ...

As previously mentioned in the Discord, the visit to Umora will be extended until Jan. 16. This should give y’all a chance to play in the setting if you weren’t able to last month due to (vague hand gestures) reasons. ICly, Navi’s off chasing a lead on one of their missing people and will have sent everyone a quick glyphlink message to the effect of “BRB” so no one is alarmed at their sudden absence. Navi will return on Jan. 16, gather up all passengers, and head off into the void of space.

From Jan. 17-31, something weird is afoot, and affected passengers will feel compelled to partake in a highkey high stakes game of marker tag.

What exactly does that mean? Glad you asked! Check out this video for an idea of the intensity level of this event. Now imagine that your goal is to mark your target with a Sharpie marker instead of attempting actual murder. Voila! Instant mayhem, considering the enclosed nature of the ship.

Why is this happening? Who cares! The only thing affected characters will care about is marking their targets. They'll be overcome with a deeply competitive impulse to win, and how that looks on your specific character is entirely up to you. Maybe you play the kind of competitive asshole who would murder to get ahead. We're not judging their life choices!

This "game" will be played out in one-hour increments. For that hour, one person will be the target, and the rest of the ship's affected passengers will have an innate sense of who their target is. Anyone not "it" will chase the target character with the aim of placing a mark on them - this could be a dot, a tally mark, a doodle, whatever! Once a target has been marked by another character, the impulse to chase will fade, until the next target is selected at the start of the next hour. Target characters will remain targets until the end of their hour or until they have been marked by all participating characters. After that hour, the game starts all over again with a new target. Rinse, repeat, and we sure hope those marks wash off in the shower.
