july mini-event: you can't wake up, this is not a dream
Hello, passengers! We hope you enjoyed your time in Space Vegas. Now, buckle in, because we have one more surprise for you this month.
SO. Remember how Jack is a literal nightmare monster? Ever wonder what kind of mayhem a nightmare monster would cause when given a mental link to a feral gremlin child with spooky (possibly demonic) psychic abilities? Wonder no more, because we’re gonnafuck around and find out!

Simon and Jack were paired in the last round, and their powers combined are gonna cause some Problems. Starting on July 17, affected passengers will begin to start feeling a little - or a lot - haunted, with many of the standard symptoms:
- Seeing lights flicker everywhere on Navi
- Feeling an oppressive/ominous presence and/or like you’re being constantly watched/followed when no one is around
- Mild physical illness, i.e., headaches, nausea, etc.
- Hallucinations/visions and nightmares, of course! Specific imagery includes tall dark monster shapes, moving shadows, fire, the end of the world, creepy grins and upside down faces, bleeding walls, occult symbols/sacred geometry, etc. Specific themes include judgment/guilt for doing something wrong and feelings of isolation. Affected characters may also have trouble distinguishing between dreams and when they’re awake, with the nightmares bleeding into waking hallucinations. (These are just suggestions, feel free to run with whatever would creep your characters out!)
Dreams and hallucinations can be shared between paired partners via the glyphlink, if players so choose, but unlike our earlier shared dream event, these won’t be picked up and spread via Navi’s link with all passengers - y’all can thank Murmur for that, as he’ll be on shielding duty for the duration of the event.
If your characters have psychic abilities of their own, they are quite welcome to amplify/interact with this! They may also be able to pinpoint where these strange effects are coming from, which could very well lead to a (literal) witch hunt, if any characters feel so inclined toward vigilantism. Detective types and those with prior knowledge of the perpetrators’ abilities are also welcome to solve this particular puzzle and hold Jack and Simon accountable for this chaos, even though it was entirely accidental. Neither of them will be coming forward to out themselves, but both players are fully down for dealing with the consequences. Please plot this out with Sic and Rae in the comments below so we’re all on the same page.
Additionally, since I (Rae) have been garbage about following through on Jack’s nightmares-for-tattoos plot, participation in this event will take the place of individual nightmares (unless you want the extra harassment). After she’s been outed, Jack will make a public apology and the anti-surveillance tattoos will be on offer to everyone on the ship going forward, no other trade necessary. This will be a big buffet for her Horror, so it’ll be well fed for a long time.
Participation in all of this is optional, of course. ICly, the effects will last for one week, until July 24, when both Simon and Jack will be full up on nightmares and their spooky abilities will take a long nap.
