i thought i heard somebody cry ...
Hello, passengers! Welcome to the most wonderful time of the year. What we have on tap for you this month is definitely all treats, no tricks. Read on for details, and please remember to drop a check-in comment no later than midnight on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

A couple of weeks after everyone has mentally returned to their normal ages, Navi will be encountered by a colony of aliens with psychic powers, the Strangers. They’re not exactly hostile, but not overly kind, either - they are the last survivors of a dead planet, searching for the key to the continued survival of their species. They believed this would be revealed by the understanding of the human soul, which they sought to learn by changing their subjects’ memories at whim. This first experiment ended rather poorly when one of the subjects developed powers like theirs and overthrew the entire City.
The few remaining Strangers who made it out alive have regrouped and decided to expand their search to not only humans, and not only memories. The experiment this time centers on the subconscious - collective dreaming, where the subjects are unaware that they are dreaming. By tapping in one of their own with a group of subjects, the Strangers are able to study the subjects and logic of their dreams.
(Yes, I know. This will be the last dream event for a while, I promise.)
When the Strangers arrive on October 10, all passengers on board will be psychically knocked unconscious via the glyphlink with Navi. The Strangers are no - well, strangers - to a collective consciousness, as that is a racial trait they share with the Navigators. Those who choose to become part of the Strangers’ experiment will be abducted off the ship and taken to a facility where the experiments are conducted.
The experiment is a variation on the previous attempt, with altered memories inside of the dream. Affected characters will have no memory of Navi, their interstellar travels, or their true lives before embarking on this voyage; they will be given an entirely new history, though whether that changes their personalities is entirely up to you. The one aspect that this dream group will all share is where they live.
Murdoch Tower is, by all appearances, just like any other apartment building in the City, drab grey cement and steel and glass, 12 bisected floors and a lavish penthouse above. Half of the apartments are luxurious, expensive homes that face out toward Central Square Park, residences of wealthy, powerful, and perhaps even famous tenants. The other half of the building is composed of much more modest accommodations that face the neighboring buildings, subsidized by grants for lower-income residents and students at the nearby City University. There are separate entrances for the two classes of tenants, A and B; the A side entrance is staffed by a uniformed attendant at the door and a professional concierge desk just inside, while the B side entrance opens to a standard apartment lobby with a wall of mailboxes. Both sides contain stairs and a pair of elevators, though the A side elevators are kept running in clockwork order and staffed by an operator, while the B side elevators are self-serve and often in need of repairs.
Whichever side of the building you call home, whether you’ve lived at Murdoch Tower for a while or have just moved in, you’ll begin to notice strange things. At first, they’re fairly easy to dismiss - a broken light here, an odd whispering sound there, an unsettling sense that you’re being watched when you’re all alone. Does the plumbing just need to be replaced, or was that rattling noise a sign of something else - something supernatural?
So, can a dream house be haunted? Not really - these weird and scary incidents are only the projections of the Stranger playing the part of the dreamer for the group of subjects. Unfortunately, the longer you stay in the dream, the more aware the projections become of the fact that you don’t belong, and the more violent they become.
There is a way out, of course - when you die in a dream, the dream ends. But if you don’t know you’re dreaming, you’re inclined to fight to stay alive. Throughout the event, you’ll receive clues to help unravel the mystery and get you back to the waking world.
If haunted dreams ain’t your thing, we’ve got another option for you! Passengers who were left behind by the Strangers will wake up on Navi, slightly disoriented with an awareness that they’ve lost a chunk of time and wondering where their missing shipmates went. Luckily, there was one little stowaway who was unaffected by the Strangers’ command to S L E E P, and he can helpfully fill in the details of what was missed while everyone was taking an unscheduled power nap.
Remember the mini-dragons from Cor Leonis? As it turns out, one snuck aboard and has been hitching a ride. Since he was awake at the time of the abductions and saw the culprits, he’s in a unique position to point Navi in the right direction to rescue the missing passengers, which is information he’ll gladly impart - for a price.
That’s right, this creature has a quest for you! This little dragon has a sister, and that sister dragon is being kept against her will by a wicked princess. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to liberate the scaly sibling in an action-packed heist adventure. That’s right, you’ve been tasked with rescuing a dragon from a princess! Once the dragons are safely reunited, Navi will be given the coordinates for the Strangers’ facility where the abducted passengers will have woken from their shared dream and are ready for rescue.
Both events will end on October 31. Happy Halloween!
Because of the nature of these events, there will not be any partner pairings this month. We’ll resume having brainmates in November. Enjoy the break?
