SCENARIO ONE: LIGHT UP THE NIGHT

The ship has stopped on Arion, near the settlement of Taunican, at the height of harvest season, and since the planet is largely agricultural, that means there is a big harvest festival a-happening.

What's neat about this festival is that it's not just a celebration of the harvest - it's a celebration of the community, and of the planet as a whole. The dominant local religion (for lack of a better term) isn't exactly experienced in term of worship but of honoring the planet itself - the seasons, the landscapes, the crops. Natives talk of Arion as if it is a living, breathing entity, because for them? Arion is.

Every evening while the ship is docked, there is a bonfire in the fields outside the town square, starting at dusk. There's a giant potluck feast, with everyone in attendance encouraged to bring dishes to share, but no one will be turned away if they arrive empty-handed. Fiddles and flutes and drums provide the soundtrack for the folk songs about Arion the locals sing around the fire; dancing and games and laughter are everywhere. This is a peaceful, joyous celebration, and you're invited!

SCENARIO TWO: WE NEED TO GO DEEPER

You're asleep, but maybe you don't know that - in the middle of a dream, it's not always easy to tell the difference between reality and the scenes your subconscious creates. You find yourself somewhere that may or may not be familiar, doing something that may be mundane or fantastical, but you're not alone. This is a dream you're sharing with your shipmates. What secrets and truths will you learn about each other?

SCENARIO THREE: STOP HITTING YOURSELF

Ope, looks like Navi’s wandered a little too close to an interdimensional rift in space-time, and now things are getting a little weird. If you happen to have superpowers, you may find that you don’t have quite as good of a hold on them as you do normally, or maybe now there are unintended side effects that occur when your powers are used. Maybe your character usually possesses enhanced strength or speed, and now they suddenly find themselves too swol to handle ordinary objects without crushing them, or they may have uncontrollable zooms and be physically unable to slow their roll.

No superpowers? No problem! Non-powered characters may find themselves deprived of one or more of their natural senses, i.e., sight, hearing, smell, taste, etc. Have fun being suddenly and temporarily blind! Walk into walls, eat trash, be free.

Princess Looma Red Wind | Ben 10 Omniverse

1. What Fresh Harvest Moon Hell is THIS?

[Talk about living planets? Weird, but not the weirdest thing she'd ever heard of. Mostly because her own galaxy sets the bar for weirdness impossibly high as it is. Looma thought it was dumb and probably just superstitious nonsense, but there actually was something troubling about this whole affair.

Something that made no sense to the red-skinned giant among the crowd of festivalgoers. Something unnatural]

You mean you actually eat these things? Why?!

[For anyone curious, on the list of things that apparently did not exist on certain alien worlds and were not universal dietary needs: vegetables. Of course, the sight of an armored 8'0" giant being grossed out by root vegetables of all things was probably entertaining in its own right. Though, considering each of her four arms were roughly the size of a human child, open laughter may not be the safest of responses. Best to just appease her with something edible. Like meat!

Or give her a drink, that'll probably end well. What's the worst that could happen, right?]

B. Walk Without Rhythm, and You... Die Looking Stupid

[Someone was bound to be unfortunate enough to wind up in Looma's dreams. And hopefully the more dream-specific rules of certain horror movie franchises didn't apply, because that would be profoundly unfortunate. Because if anyone wondered just what the pampered daughter of a warlord from an even more incredibly warlike culture on a planet that had literally been fighting a civil war for thousands of years dreamed about, the answer was not flowering meadows and April showers.

Though, thankfully, no one would be thrust into the middle of a warzone. She didn't have dreams about that particular hobby, she had plenty of time to actually command a battlefield and quash rebellions in her waking hours. No, anyone wandering into her dream would find themselves in the middle of a vast, suns-baked desert- and yes that's suns, plural, best of luck with that heat even if it is only a dream. But it's unlikely that's going to be the only problem, or the worst one.

See, one of Looma's other hobbies, one she didn't get to engage in nearly as often, was hunting. And, as this was Khoros- one of the single most dangerous planets in the known universe- that meant that anything she was hunting was also hunting her. And, by extension, whoever was unfortunate enough to find themselves in her dreams. But hey, look around: no sign of another living thing for miles around. That's gotta mean it's safe enough for the time being, right? The fact that the giant war princess is standing in the middle of the desert repeatedly jabbing the shaft of a large metal trident into the ground probably meant nothing. Probably.]

one

[ Watching the large red woman has her feeling more sympathy than she'd expect; she'd been a little like that her first day in Metropolis, looking around at anything and everything, waiting for the world to make sense. She figures she's in a unique sort of position to offer a bit of assistance, so she makes her way over with a drink in one hand and a smile on. ]

You're looking a little... uncomfortable. Something I can help you with?
tough_love: (Excuse you I was talking)

she is an absolute dumpster fire of a person and I am sorry

[personal profile] tough_love 2020-09-02 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
[It's sympathy that is very, very misplaced. Because this is one of the galaxy's brattiest teenagers. And also one of the quickest to anger, but at least that doesn't seem to be happening too much? Maybe? All four eyes are definitely narrowing as she looks down at interloper, but that at least seems to be the extent of things.]

Not unless you have real food, human.

[She is not even trying to hide the distaste behind that last word. Not even a little. And it'd be hard to miss even if she spoke in the normal decibel range, instead she has every bit the booming voice that would be expected from someone her size.]

Or know of a good village to conquer, because these weaklings are clearly not worth the effort!

[It's probably not every day that a city's spared from invasion because it wouldn't be enough of a challenge to destroy, but that probably counts as a win for everyone else anyway, right?]
shahrrehth: http://asylums.insanejournal.com/embargo/213350.html (little smile)

that's JUST fine

[personal profile] shahrrehth 2020-09-02 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
[ Despite the fact that Clara could hear her from the next planet over talking like that, she smiles up at the somewhat larger woman and that smile holds the amusement that comes any time someone calls her 'human'.

The booming voice only makes it better, really.]

I think these folks are more interested in having a good time at the moment, but don't count them out. People defend what's theirs and they'll surprise you.

[ She slings a thumb back out into one of the fields. ]

If you'd like a spar, though, that I could give you. Vent that spleen a little. Maybe then you can enjoy the festivities.
tough_love: (And that's that)

[personal profile] tough_love 2020-09-02 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
But that is a good time! Not whatever this is supposed to be!

[Given she has exactly 0 volume control, unsurprisingly a few heads turn her way as she says that. And promptly turn back to where they were before after a borderline feral snarl from the princess.

If Clara was expecting her to jump at that offer though, she'd be disappointed. It holds her attention for a moment, sure, but after that all it elicits is scoffing disapproval and a wave of dismissal from one of her lower hands.]

I am not in the mood for courtship, little human. If that's what you're after, look around, I am certain you will find more suitable partners.

[Clara may or may not have just inadvertently flown facefirst into a pretty significant cultural difference with that offer.]

[ This is not the first time she’s encountered a war-fixated society. It’s not even the third time she’s encountered one. But maybe she’s out of practice because she finds herself rubbing her temple. ]

Don’t flatter yourself, woman only a little taller than me.

[ The temptation to float isn’t huge but it is there. ‘Little’ goes up her craw a bit. She’s not a short woman. ] That’s not romantic where I’m from. I just figured you were bored.

[ but the genuine level of confusion has her asking- ]

You don’t have food and drink where you’re from?
tough_love: (Not a good smile)

[personal profile] tough_love 2020-09-02 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
For now. A few more of your Earth years, and the difference will be much more pronounced!

[Which was probably at least 50% optimism. As far as Tetramands went, Looma had always been on the petite side. She'd be lucky to hit even 10'0".]

How it works on Earth is of little consequence. For a Tetramand, that's simply the way it is. But at least you were not so forward as to challenge me to a real fight- in the unlikely scenario you would actually win, the rest of this miserable journey would have been reeeally awkward.

[And if on offer to spar was seen as flirtatious, well. Going into this blind or not, Clara could probably imagine what a proper one-on-one fight would be considered. It certainly wouldn't take much effort, even if it might take considerably more just to figure out why and how it ever came to pass that beating the daylights out of one another was how engagements were formed and broken.]

We do, yes, but it's hardly entertainment. Or...leafy.

[She's going to be on the vegetable hate for a while. Fruit too, for that matter, but at least some of them tasted sugary sweet.]

What little can be grown is used for feeding the beasts, and it isn't as if we require much to drink in order to survive. If we had to drink as much as you humans do, there would not be a single Tetramand left alive on all of Khoros!

[ It's not so much that being mistaken for a human upsets her. Quite the contrary; a lot of the people she loves back home are human and she's always loved humanity. But considering the faint pang she always feel when someone talks about their own unique culture (she's the last Kryptonian, does she even have a culture? Is she doing it right? Is she an imposter, given all she knows came from texts and records?), the irony of commenting on her consumption given she really doesn't actually need much more than solar energy here and there, and the offhand insults to agriculture in general, she is having to be a little more conscious about not getting annoyed. Thus a temple rub.

This woman is also loud. ]

Three things, if you don't mind. The first is that I'm really curious how you solve problems if any kind of fight is considered a romantic overture.

[ Maybe she can learn something here! ]

The second? Is that the entertainment isn't the food and drink. It's the people. The happiness that comes from a good harvest. It means that the winter won't be as hard and they don't have to worry about making it to the spring. And last?

[ She hates making this point. It makes her skin crawl, makes her feel like eyes are on her. It's so counter to everything she knows and she feels exposed. ]

Just because someone looks like me doesn't necessarily mean that they're human. It's something you should keep in mind on this 'journey' of ours. Or you might end up being very surprised.
